Frequently Asked Questions - Digital Recorders
The PRO uses hardware encoding (does not use the main CPU) for analog cameras and can record each analog channel at up to 30 fps, while the DRX uses software encoding (uses the main CPU) for analog cameras. Both are hybrid models so they can record IP cameras as well, but since the Pro Series does not require the CPU to encode analog video, it can handle a much higher load of IP camera activity such as megapixel, number of cameras, frame-rate and recompression.
The Pro series is our leading hybrid solution and is a highly capable workhorse recorder designed to meet the widest range of applications while providing the highest quality experience possible. There are only two reasons not to choose the Pro Series which are: pure IP/Network camera applications only (use the NDVR) or; installations that will use mostly analog cameras and are on the economical side.
The DRX is designed for economical installations that still require the power and capabilities of the VIGIL recording software. The DRX may be used for applications that mostly use analog cameras, but it can also provide a good transition to a full IP camera system as well.
The DRX uses software encoding to compress analog cameras and therefore uses more of the CPU than the PRO Series which uses hardware compression for analog cameras.
All VIGIL products including the DRX provide the full power of the VIGIL software suite. Be sure to talk to your dealer about not only your current needs, but your future plans as well to ensure the smoothest route as your video system grows over time.
Yes! VIGIL provides many different ways to configure multiple monitors both at the DVR itself AND at the Remote Client workstation. Depending on the options selected and the particular model being used you can have multiple multiplexed monitors (up to 16 cameras in a single screen), multiple spot-monitors (one image per monitor) or a mix of both.
Due to the many different ways multiple monitors can be configured it is important to work with your sales person or dealer to ensure you get the proper hardware for your application. But don’t worry, multiple monitors setups are affordable, easy to set up and provide a great video experience!
The Pelco KDB-300 joystick/keyboard (or compatible device) can be connected at both the DVR or NVR itself or at any Remote Client Workstation such as your home computer where you run the remote client software.
The keyboard provides a variety of functionality including camera/screen switching and callup, variable speed pan/tilt/zoom control of PTZ cameras, as well as preset and route callup.
The keyboard becomes especially useful when you have multiple monitors either at the DVR or the remote client and allows you to quickly and easily operate your system in a virtual matrix fashion.
Yes!
All Version 5.0 and newer VIGIL recorders use the same software meaning you can install NDVR’s, Pro Series and DRX Series recorders side-by-side or at different sites and they will still all work together.
Just pick the best one for each facility or application and our software will do the rest.
We recommend Minuteman UPS battery backup devices because of the clean power and protection they provide our equipment. The units we sell the most of are the Entrust Series because of the functionality, price and size of the units.
Each unit has four outlets that provide battery support along with spike and surge protection. There are an additional four spike and surge protected outlets for accessory devices that don’t require battery support. There are even two outlets that are specifically spaced to support transformer block items.
The small, uniquely designed, footprint of the Entrust UPS is ideal for placement on, or under, a desk. All models in the Series can also be installed vertically on a shelf in a rack or cabinet installation.
Additionally, Entrust products come with all the award-winning service and support capabilities offered by Para Systems, Inc. including a three-year warranty, (two-years on the battery), and a $75,000 Platinum Protection Plan.
Each UPS comes with Sentry Plus system management software that provides functions like auto start of a DVR upon reengaging of power, Notifications on set parameters, and History analysis.
Please check out Minuteman for more information regarding this and other products they produce.
